Future Leadership:
Learning What It Is to Be Human
with Daniel Wordsworth (view bio)
President and CEO, American Refugee Committee
30 Years of Refuge - Recovery - Rebuilding: For 30 years, the American Refugee Committee has been at the forefront of global refugee work. ARC works in 7 countries around the world helping victims of war and civil conflict rebuild their lives. ARC programs in Africa and Asia provided health care, clean water, shelter repair, legal aid, trauma counseling, microcredit, community development services, and repatriation assistance to 2.5 million people last year. ARC bases its relationship with uprooted peoples on mutual respect and a compassionate exchange of knowledge and values.
Daniel Wordsworth came to ARC last fall to help guide, re-envision and scale the big global assignment of supporting refugees while creating reciprocal sustainability between those who sustain ARC and those whom ARC sustains.
The ARC Vision and Mission are timely: Every person who participates in an ARC program or project will have a better chance to take control of their life and achieve self sufficiency. ARC helps people survive conflict and crisis and rebuild lives of dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. ARC is committed to the delivery of programs that ensure measurable quality and lasting impact for the people we serve.
ARC Guiding Principles align with Heartland’s work: Ethics, Dignity, Optimism, Service, Self-sufficiency, Advocacy, Stewardship.
As a conscious organization the folks at ARC create a vehicle to allow people to give and receive in a way that creates reciprocity and wholeness.
Success Stories include stopping HIV/AIDS At Gihembe Camp in Rwanda, youth clubs are helping prevent HIV/AIDS in their communities, and ARC's community media project - educating people on gender-based violence.
