The Power of
Collective Wisdom
and the trap of collective folly
with Alan Briskin (view bio)
Consultant; author of The Stirring of Soul in the Workplace, co-author of Daily Miracles, and his new book The Power of Collective Wisdom

Listen to Alan's VisionHolder Call from November 19!
If we are to disentangle the extraordinary challenges that we face today, in organizations, communities and nations, we must transcend our divisions and develop solutions together. But what enables us to collectively make wise decisions and sound judgments instead of splintering apart?
When human beings gather together a depth of awareness and insight, a transcendent knowing, becomes available. We have the potential to tap into an extraordinary co-creative power that exists in every group. How can we do this more reliably?
This
book* takes knowledge about groups and elevates it to a field and a
movement. The authors are original thinkers, good writers, and have
the ability to integrate a breadth of thinking into a new whole. ~ Peter Block, author, Community and Stewardship

Our intent for this session is
- to introduce you to an important development in organizational and personal leadership
- help develop the ability to build cohesive, coherent, collaborative structures
-
demonstrate the power of embodying your values and wisdom as a core leadership capacity
- provide a foundation for the field of collective wisdom’s further emergence.
As a long-time researcher, observer and chronicler of the emerging field of "collective wisdom," Alan will bring a body of knowledge and wisdom to our Gathering to explore how developing this capacity of leadership is an imperative for the future of organizations.
Collective wisdom refers to knowledge and insight gained through group and community interaction. It is elusive and unpredictable – it can’t be willed into being. We can, however, create the conditions for collective wisdom to be cultivated. At a deeper level it is about our living connection to each other and the interdependence we share in our neighborhoods, organizations, and world community.
From The Power of Collective Wisdom: And the trap of collective folly:
“We see our efforts as part of a larger social movement. Everywhere we look, we see groups, networks, and communities rising up to address common challenges. What all of us share is a collective outlook and a desire for wise action. We seek what human beings have always sought: to find what is best in ourselves and what is best in and for the group.”
